well i had my first day of teaching experience today, andy can honestly say it was fantastic!
we actually did an art gallery visit so not exactly my first day of classroom experience but it still counts, i met around half of the students on the 2 years of the course
real classroom experience tomorrow, straight in at the deep end teaching an hour myself!

new direction....
thought i'd announce the new direction.....well old idea but finally following through with it.....i'm going in
i got on a PGCE teaching course!
ok so i'm doing it part time instead of full time like i'd originally planned to but not really the point, just means it'll take me twice as long! i'll be a teacher in two years instead of one. makes sense really since as a fashion graduate/general creative person academic subjects are really not my strong point, my 2nd class was yesterday and i already have required reading that is very academic with lots of long words and is generally quite scary.
but there we go, in two years i should be a textiles. fashion teacher, as long as i find a placement soon for my require student teaching hours.......

some final project things
uploading photos from my camera and found i few final major project photos, so it didn't end quite the way i'd wanted it to but the interim photos don't look to bad
remind me of the things i want to re-do just for myself really, thought you might liked to see the photos anyway
from the top - studies of other designers work, more studies, inspiration, one of own designs, technical designs, selection of technicals more designs and work in progress photos, lingerie designs, more lingerie designs, and finally logo design!
i'm definitely going to look into the lingerie again, i enjoyed designing that so maybe it's an avenue i could go down. the eco bridal wear is something i'm going to stick with just because i'd really like to do longterm, i'm starting to consider my on business, since i don't really do so well stuck in a office being bossed around..........but i don't really know if i've got the self control to run my own business? i would really have to be nocturnal, since i'm off work today and didn't get out of bed until 12:55.........
more photos of stuff to come

p.s just incase any student or work person or anyone else really finds my blog and decides they really really like my work, do not steal it! i know its a sad world when designer-makers, bloggers etc have to say this but as i have expressed in this blog before my work is copyright. steal it/use it and i will find you. on the other hand, i'm always looking for work, and will happily consult with anyone, work with anyone, or freelance for anyone. just saying........

of costume making and EU bans
ooohhhh this last few days of blogging more has uncovered some interesting things!
i found the stats part on my login homepage! and i discovered from this that i've had 9 page views of the EU invasive species ban posts!looks like people like my strange and hard-to-read-in-some-places map diagrams! thats more than i normally get so looks like i may just blog about the ban a bit more, since it appreciated. next up in the EU ban series, i'm going to look at individual species, starting with my own, first up my sticky footed geckos so rhacodactylus species, and the mollucan giant geckos.
I've also looked at how the american invasive species ban is going so far, and how similar theories could be implemented in the EU, should the ban go through here. will have a dedicated post for that in bit though.
in other news, i purchased a teaching assistant course, studied at home, over a year ago and even after an extension i'm still not finished! oops! its due in on the 28th, so looks like lots of typing to do in the next 4 days. determined to finish something though, uni went a bit disastrously and this will not be a repeat performance! and off to typey type.......

EU invasive species ban, reptiles
just to put it in perspective, heres all of my animals on the risk map
at least 6 of the species i keep are at risk, looking at species individually i would also consider new caledonian species to be at risk, as they are kept at temperatures below 26 celcius in captivity
hopefully this series of posts puts the risk into perspective for a lot of keepers

EU invasive species ban, reptiles
another update to my EU invasive species ban blog posts, i've put together a risk map! yes i've had a very productive day, sort of.
click it! it should get bigger, and readable because it's a little bit small to read i think!
quick key - the numbers refers to how many species of reptile we are currently aware live in each continent. i've split the map into 3 sections by temperature, going on 2011 figures on june highest temperatures and january lowest temperature ranges.
SECTION ONE MOST AT RISK
....north american species = 255 species
....asian species = 1387
total risk = 1642
SECTION TWO MODERATE RISK
....asian species = 360
....african species = 660
....asian species = 693
....north america species = 1145
....aquatic = 500
total risk = 3358
SECTION THREE NO RISK (HOPEFULLY)
....africa species = 660
....australian = 850
....south american = 1560
....aquatic = 610
total risk = 3680
so there we go, for all the reptile keepers out there, this is what is at risk!!!!! we need to stand up against the ban!!!!
loves x
edit - from approximately half way down south america, draw a line horizontally, anything below this line could potentially be considered for the act too, as the temperatures last year averaged 20 celcius upward throughout the year and thus species in this section could be supported in a europian climate

EU invasive species ban, reptiles
well as followers may know i have one or two pets of the scaly type.....well.....48 reptiles!
and as i'm all finished uni now i thought i'd direct my blog towards more personal things than just wingeing about uni. so, my pets are endangered! following the ban in america europe has followed suit. europe now has movements in place considering a ban on invasive species, including reptiles!
this could potentially mean keepers are banned from breeding and selling reptiles, or could go as far as keepers being forced to have their pets euthanised!!! different species will be evaluated, if they are considered potentially invasive species anything could happen!!!
while the EU had published a questionnaire regarding the ban, they missed the point of freedom of speech all together! most of the questions in the questionaire had attached conditions, for instance what would happen to the species already kept in captivity, what about breeding, etc. people answering could not select one right answer without condemning their pets due to the selective wording of the questions.
continuous updates of the progress can be found on www.reptileforums.co.uk, and anyone out there who supports our hobby needs to be vigilant! please help the reptile keeping community in any way now while you still can!

blog catch up
bit of a blog catch up, been super busy with final major project at the minute and had a whole day catching up on everything today (even managed to put a load of laundry in, forgot to take it out though ooops)
Teacup Candles!! super cute!!
a fantastically adorable way to change vintage damaged teacups that have outlived there usefulness, and all of these odds bits of candles that have pretty much run out!
will hopefully have another bit of a catch up once i've got some more of the pattern cutting and toiles done, at the minute its sort of a big pile of bits of paper and some pinned together bits of fabric while i figure out what on earth i've done!
much loves xx
p.s strongly considering planting a tree (or at least growing a really small one on the windowsill, since i lack a garden) in an attempt to make up for all of the paper and magazines i'm going through with this project!thoughts anyone?
so heres a little catch up, final major project is going well, got a million and one things to do, currently pattern cutting and making up toiles. got a few ideas aside from final major too, for examples i'm planning on trying these

start of final major project...sort of...actually sort of a book distraction
well after we received the really really long module guide in yesterdays very unpointless lecture (No sarcasm intended her, many of last years design lectures were very very pointless, having no focus on the fashion course at all, rather the lecturer just rambled about how much he liked animation) i've had another sit down chat with one of my tutors for final major project, and she's still quite happy with my entirely recycled/reclaimed/repurposed bridal wear concept yay!
so that being agreed, i've decided given the nature of my project i'm going to be wandering in and out of charity and thrift shop, as well as the obvious factory fabric warehouses for reclaimed fabrics, notions etc. It make sense to be constantly collecting things when they should appear, rather than wait until after I've finished all of the research section, prototyping sections etc only to discover i can't'
so on my charity shop wander today i found.....a book. erm....not even a really final major project or even a fashiony book..... its "life mask" by emma donaghue. i suppose a little bit project related as its based in the 18th century and talks about costume and masquerade, 18th century fashion being a bit of an influence in this project...but not really very related but it look good and i fancied reading it! i might be extra good and even blog a book review since its costume related when I'm finished, it will probably take me a while- i shouldn't really be reading new books when i'm supposed to be starting my research, but i need a bit of a distraction sometimes when i have a mental block! thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

final major project
yeyyyy!! both tutors approve of my final major project concept!!!
on that note i can now reveal it, i shall be doing a selection or pieces (possibly a small collection if i can get away with it) of entirely recycled/reused/reclaimed bridal wear! the only thing i'm aiming to use new would be thread, and only because i don't think i can really recycle thread while maintaining its strength. everything else, the fabrics, notions etc, unless i absolutely can't find it anywhere else!
and on another note, i am now the owner of a shiny new 13" macbook pro, after my last 17" macbook met an untimely end involving a bottle of beer.......needless to say no drink safe allowed anywhere new this one!
much loves xx
